SCAVENGER HUNT POST

Today, I am hosting Melissa Eastlake on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

I’m sharing a deleted scene from my novel The Uncrossing. This is a little piece of prologue that never made it into any of the real drafts of the book – or got edited properly, to be entirely honest – but having written the backstory still helped inform the final scenes that did make it into the book.

The club is too grimy and close and perfect to last much longer in New York, but Alexei doesn’t know that. All he knows is that it has all-ages shows sometimes, so he can go and throw his body around the pit on the floor until his blood blooms under his skin, dark as the marker Xes on his hands.

Alexei doesn’t understand his blood yet, not really—what a power it is, what a burden, how hot it flows in his veins—but he knows it’s expensive. When another skull smashes too hard against his face, stars explode behind his vision and sticky wet heat runs down his mouth and chin, and he feels strangely giddy. Reckless. People will trade a lifetime’s loyalty for a drop of this blood, and Alexei’s spilling it down his t-shirt and onto the floor because he can make as much of it as he needs.

He pushes to the edge of the pit, smearing the back of his hand across his throbbing face so he can breathe, and his eyes fall on a girl like a shaft of light at the dark bar. Alexei’s never met her, never even been in the same room with her, but he recognizes her right away with a thrill of something he calls fear. She sees him too, and holds him in a stare.

Because he can’t let his nerves show, he smiles as darkly as he can, all teeth in his bloody mouth. He must look like a monster—he is one—but the girl doesn’t waver. She arches an eyebrow and lets one corner of her mouth lift slowly, giving him something like a smile in return.

More about The Uncrossing…

Luke can uncross almost any curse—they unravel themselves for him like no one else. So working for the Kovrovs, one of the families controlling all the magic in New York, is exciting and dangerous, especially when he encounters the first curse he can’t break. And it involves Jeremy, the beloved, sheltered prince of the Kovrov family—the one boy he absolutely shouldn’t be falling for.

Jeremy’s been in love with cocky, talented Luke since they were kids. But from their first kiss, something’s missing. Jeremy’s family keeps generations of deadly secrets, forcing him to choose between love and loyalty. As Luke fights to break the curse, a magical, citywide war starts crackling, and it’s tied to Jeremy.

This might be the one curse Luke can’t uncross. If true love’s kiss fails, what’s left for him and Jeremy?

Happy Release day for Visions of Pain!

Visions of Pain

Capissian Order, book 1

Get it at your favorite eBook store: https://books2read.com/u/38ggYL

Life changing event is an understatement.

Seventeen-year-old Rylee Baker’s whole life has been filled with half-truths. She knows her mother was murdered, but not why. She has never met her mother’s family and has very little contact with people of her own race.

Everything changes when her Capissian powers wake up and her father moves them to the small town of Narmik Springs, hidden in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She’s pulled into a culture she knows little about and a civil war threatening to spill over into the human world.

If that isn’t bad enough, someone wants her dead.

It’s up to Reed, Sawyer, Cal, Kent, and Dalton to help her control her growing powers and ensure she lives long enough to fulfill an ancient prophecy.

Visions of Pain Countdown Teaser Four

Tomorrow is the day! That means this is your last teaser. 😀

What seemed like several minutes passed before he spoke. “Lucia Crane is my aunt. She killed my mother because she joined the Order to fight against her.”

Everything clicked into place. My dad’s concern about Dalton being on board. The dark energy Dalton had.

I pulled back and stared into his midnight-blue eyes. Framing his face with my hands, I asked, “What are your powers?”

“Noxrego, aquakinesis, and telepathy.”

Noxrego was the power to control shadows and darkness. It was a dark power from the Crane bloodline—Lucifer’s bloodline. That was the dark power I felt when near him.

Visions of Pain Countdown Teaser Three

TWO more days. I’m getting nervous. 😀

Here’s today’s teaser…

The sun was starting to set, casting an orange and peach glow through the clouds and behind the mountains. “It’s beautiful.”

“The best view in the apartment.” Sawyer’s soft tone surprised me.

I met his gaze and studied him for a moment. When I first saw him at the school, he appeared pissed, like he’d rather have acid dropped in his eyes than be there. Now, he seemed relaxed, but still on edge. Before I could call him on it, Cal came out and leaned against me.

I smiled at him. Cal was easy to get used to. His energy was calming. Leaning back against him, I asked, “Do all of you live here?”

Visions of Pain Countdown Teaser Two

THREE more days until release day. Are you ready?

Here’s another teaser for you…

My soul and my magic recognized them, called out to them.

They were my soulmates.

I sagged into Cal, resting my forehead to his. “I don’t understand how any of this could work.”

Cal stood, lifted me in his arms, and then sat in the chair, placing me in his lap. “Neither do we. Even though we’ve known our mate would come to us. We’re not prepared for it to be you.”

Visions of Pain Countdown Teaser One

Visions of Pain, the first in my NA serial, Capissian Order, releases on Friday (10/27).  I’m super excited about the release. I celebrating I’ll be posting teasers all week.

Today’s teaser is right after Cal helped Rylee create mental shields to block her psychometry power.

Cal withdrew from my mind and we were back in the apartment’s living room. He smiled at me, both his hands framing my face. Before I realized what I was doing, I lifted my hands to cover his. A flash lit up his brown eyes right before they lowered to my lips.

My heart froze for a moment before pounding in my ears. What would it feel like to kiss him? Especially since my gift was locked away. I leaned in a fraction of an inch.

The sound of the kitchen door opening broke whatever trance or moment we shared. My cheeks heated and I sat back into the sofa just as Tyler and Drew came in with bags of fast food in their arms.

Cal jerked to a stand and left the room. My gaze followed him as he disappeared down the hallway.

“What’s going on?”

Entangled Souls

The runes Universe, Kindle Worlds

By Dorothy Dreyer

Her whole life, Lexi has known that the voices she hears in her head—omens and harbingers of important things to come—are part of being a witch. But what she doesn’t know is that a soul has escaped its reaping while on her family’s property.

When handsome stranger Caden shows up on his motorcycle to tour the vineyard she grew up on, she isn’t aware that he is a Valkyrie searching for the lost soul. All she knows is that the deep attraction she feels for him is undeniable. When Caden finds out Lexi is a witch and asks her to help him track down the soul, Lexi must come to terms with the fact that Caden is immortal and decide if her feelings for a soul reaper are worth the risks.

Check an exclusive deleted scene

Caden

Lexi made a soft sound, shifting in my arms as she continued to sleep. Though I sat in her bed, I was above the covers while she was tucked beneath the floral sheets. But her head rested on my chest, and I wondered at the fact that my beating heart hadn’t woken her. Though Arthur’s spirit had possessed Lexi’s body only for a short amount of time, it left her exhausted. She had passed out on the kitchen floor the second Arthur’s soul left her body, and I had been quick to catch her.

I wondered if she even realized I was beside her, holding her, keeping her safe in the cocoon of my arms. And she was safe—I wouldn’t let anything happen to her.

She lifted her cheek and swiped a stray hair away, immediately snuggling into me again. Her lips parted, and the soft word that came out set my pulse racing and made my heart swell.

“Caden.”

I had to double-check to be sure she was still asleep. Her breathing was slow and deep, her eyes still shut, and her body warm. Was she dreaming of me? Did she subconsciously know I was here beside her? Or was she calling my name, the longing in her heart for us to be together as strong as it was in mine?

I stroked her hair, looking forward to the moment she would open her eyes so I could tell her how I felt about her.
